Steve Schmidt is not only a long time Republican strategist, he is also incredibly experienced in running campaigns, including John McCain’s 2008 campaign for the presidency. Schmidt is an ongoing MSNBC contributor and was made famous in the HBO movie Game Change, a movie largely about Schmidt’s interactions with vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. He brought this expertise to the Morning Joe program today, where he was asked his opinion on Mike Pence, and, being shockingly candid, openly questioned the vice presidents patriotism.
Schmidt admitted he does not understand why Pence has seemed to escape the scrutiny that other Trump officials have faced, saying specifically, “We don’t talk enough about the vice president’s nonstop lying.” Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski added that Pence was acting “willfully stupid”, and she and Schmidt agreed that anyone who loved their country would be appalled at Russian interference.
Both Schmidt and Mika expressed disdain for the way those in the administration that have claimed to love America have turned a blind eye to interference in a free election process, and both feel that anyone high up in the administration, from Kushner, to Pence, to Bannon, have all lied repeatedly to the American people about what they knew, and when they knew it.
Schmidt wasn’t done, however, continuing, “I think that over these months the vice president’s exposed himself as a titanic fraud. When it comes to consensual relationships between gay Americans, he’s never tongue-tied on that. We don’t hear from him on Roy Moore. We don’t hear from him … 100 percent of the people in this administration, when asked a question about Russia, the Russian involvement in this election, they lie about it. Not 99 percent of the time, not 99.9 percent of the time — 100% of the time.”
Schmidt joins a growing number of Republicans, including strategists, senators, and house of representatives members, who are completely disavowing this administration, and in no uncertain terms calling out the President and his henchmen.
