BREAKING: Democrats Sit On The Floor Of Congress Refusing To Move — Demand Action On Guns (VIDEO)

House Democrats are taking a stand for action on gun reform by staging a sit-in lead by Civil Rights activist Rep. John Lewis.

The Democrats have had it in the House. After nearly six years of Republican control and near constant dodging of meaningful legislation, the Democrats want action on gun control reform and they’re not going to let the House proceed without a vote on the issue.

Civil Rights activist and Congressman Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) staged a sit-in with 70 other House Democrats.

According to NBC, Rep. Lewis said:

“Now is the time for us to find a way to dramatize it, to make it real. We have to occupy the floor of the House until there is action.”

And then they sat.

That’s when House Republicans declared a recess and the cameras shut down. So, not to be silenced the protesting Democrats are posting their resistance under the hashtags #NoBillNoBreak , #NOMORESILENCE, and #GoodTrouble.

The peaceful protest comes on the heels of four failed common sense gun reform bills that were unable to break the 60-vote threshold in the Senate on Monday. The cloture votes included legislation on denying suspected terrorists the ability to buy guns and expanding background checks — after Omar Mateen, who was under investigation for terrorist ties, easily obtained an AR-15 and shot over 100 people in an Orlando nightclub, killing 50. Last week, Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) filibustered for 15 hours demanding action on gun control.

Senator Murphy tweeted this morning showing solidarity for the House Dems.

Take note Republicans, this is how you shut down the government.

This protest comes just weeks after House Democrats shamed House Republicans who voted to allow federal government contractors to discriminate against the LGBT community. Democratic Representatives literally stood up in their seats, raised their fists and shouted “Shame” at Republicans for changing their votes and allowing the measure to fail.

UPDATE: President Obama praises Rep. Lewis for taking action:

We will continue to update as the protest wages on.
